Remembering Dick Caley
It is with a heavy heart that we reach out to share that Jog Your Memory lost one of our own this past weekend. Dick Caley, Jess' Dad, and a founding board member of Jog Your Memory, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep Friday night at his home in Granby, CT.
If you have attended our race in person over the past 10 years, you know Dick as the mayor of our race and a father and grandfather figure to many. He was always the first one to greet race participants and volunteers with a big smile and was quick to strike up a friendly conversation or offer some encouraging words. If you donated over the years, you may also know that Dick was the person who wrote hundreds of handwritten notes to donors thanking them for their support.
Dick is the reason we have supported over 100 families with our caregiver fund. As the ultimate caregiver, Dick saw his beloved wife Carol every day over the past 7 years as she resided in her new home. Wednesday they would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary together. As a family, Dick and Carol, taught us to give back; dedicating their lives to helping others and often spending holidays at soup kitchens and spare time and energy in support of those less fortunate.
To honor this amazing man, we will officially be changing the name of our Caregiver Grant to the "Dick Caley Caregiver Grant" and will share his story with all future recipients.
In just the last few days, we have been reminded of how many lives Dick has touched by the outpouring of support and shared personal stories and anecdotes. If you would like to share your own Dick story you can do that here - we would love to hear from you and celebrate him.
